I’m going to put up a more in-depth review later this week,
regarding the good stuff like the refs’ calls, LSU fans, and
perhaps even some commentary on the game itself. But I’m too
exhausted to get into all that drama when I’ve gotten maybe
6 hours of sleep this weekend. I just wanted to put out a little
pep talk to try to get the Auburn faithful to get their heads back
up after this weekend. Despite the results of this weekend, here
are some positive things to take from the past couple of days:
1)
We won this game. Auburn played as well as it had to for a win in
Death Valley. Auburn was the better team on Saturday and it took
what seemed to be some sort of demonic intervention (I refuse to
even consider it was divine intervention!) to keep LSU in the game
through a series of previously questionable (and completely incorrect
retrospectively) calls by the refs and a freakish 1 in 10 shot of
success toss into the end zone. The boys played their hearts out
and if the game were played 10 more times, Auburn would have won
9 of them.
2)
We are a very young team. Do you know how scary we are going to
be when these 18 and 19 years olds who are taking on a senior LSU
team (who is running out of Saban’s recruits) stride for stride
are 20 and 21? May the Lord be with the SEC when these kids are
21 and 22, it might not even be competitive by then. Can you even
believe the maturity and composure of our freshmen? They have gone
so far beyond the call of duty it’s not even funny.
3)
Brandon Cox is living up to the preseason hype. Cox has become the
leader that we expected him to be. Cox has been nearly perfect in
the past four games. There has not been a more clutch drive this
season, from any team, than Cox had in the fourth quarter Saturday.
No one has driven the ball under greater circumstances, in a tougher
atmosphere, against a better defense than Cox did against LSU Saturday
night. The only problem was that he was too clutch, despite the
circumstances, and scored too quickly.
4) Auburn is the only three loss team still ranked. The pollsters
respect us. Even a 5-3 Auburn is ranked higher than a 6-2 Alabama
team that just ran the score up on Tennessee. War Eagle.
5)
There is still plenty more to the season. I’m not saying that
Auburn has much of a shot at winning any sort of championships this
season, but the best parts of the season are still ahead of us.
We still get to take our frustrations out on Ole Miss, and when
we’re done using them as a punching bag, Auburn will get to
take the pain to Georgia and then welcome Alabama for what might
be the best Iron Bowl in a decade.
Hold your heads high Auburn, it’s still great to be an Auburn
Tiger!
