Georgia Preview

I like Georgia.  They are a lot like Auburn: the ladies are good looking, the campus is old-fashioned but pretty, the head coach is a great guy who values morals, the fans are classy, and the football is great.  Georgia and Ole Miss were fighting for the #2 spot in my favorite SEC teams list, but then Mark Richt ordered his team to get a celebration penalty and the nation got to watch a bunch of fat lineman dance.  How could I deny Georgia the #2 spot after such an awesome gesture?  There’s only enough room in my heart to hate Georgia one day out of the year… and that day is rapidly approaching.

Georgia this season has come across as a bit streaky.  They crushed a good Oklahoma State team, won a clutch game at Alabama, and handily won against Florida, but in between each of those big wins was a big letdown, whether the loss to a now sliding South Carolina, a horrendous showing against Tennessee (why Tennessee, why?) or a defense-exposing close game against Troy, so there’s no telling which Georgia team to expect to show up on Saturday, but since this is the SEC’s Oldest Rivalry, we’ll assume that they’ll bring their A-game, lest they be unmercifully sacrificed to the BCS gods.  That was all one sentence, there’s no way that can be grammatically correct… Moving on.

With all of Auburn’s out of conference opponents losing last week (South Florida, Kansas State, New Mexico State, and obviously Tennessee Tech all lost), Auburn’s strength of schedule has taken a hit.  Along with the earth shattering win by USC over Oregon State (GO BEAVERS!), there was enough to drop over beloved Tigers a spot in the BCS.  No matter, we’ll have our chance to make a splash this Saturday as Auburn goes into the game with the advantage, as both Auburn and Georgia are better on the road.  Plus, the following teams that are ranked ahead of us have a pretty good chance of losing:

#4 Kansas against Oklahoma State ( Kansas won’t be able to run the score up on this one)

#6 Missouri against Texas A&M (Franchione needs to make a statement)

#7 West Virginia against Louisville (Daggum Cut-throat Big East!)

#9 Arizona State against UCLA ( Arizona State is overrated and UCLA is the upset queen… Auburn is king)

#10 Georgia against Auburn (Duh)

#11 Virginia Tech against Florida State (They is heating up)

#12 Michigan against Wisconsin (I’m feeling this one)

#13 Connecticut against Cincinnati (Why is one of these teams ranked ahead of us?)

#14 Texas against Texas Tech (Go Red Raiders!)

#15 Florida against South Carolina (“Yeah this’ the Head Ball Coach… I TOLD you he can really go!”)

I can almost guarantee that half of these upsets are going to happen.  Having said that, I firmly believe that I have jinxed all the upsets from happening.  Having said that, I have completely confused Karma and now there’s no telling what’s going to happen.  Needless to say, there is plenty of opportunity this weekend for Auburn to make a HUGE jump.  But first things first, we have to do something about Georgia.  Once again, this game is too close to call by means of talent alone, so we need judge this game by mojo!  Let the Mojo Face Off Begin!

Home field disadvantage: Both of these teams are better on the road, both having ridiculous road records over the past four years ( Auburn has only lost 2 and Georgia has only lost 3).  Georgia unfortunately has to play at home this year.  +1 mojo points for Auburn.

Black vs. White: Georgia is threatening to wear all black… spontaneously and without reason.  They must be dressing for a funeral, because Auburn’s wearing white and that just means bad things are going to happen for Georgia.  +1 mojo points for Auburn’s winning streak while wearing white extends their mojo lead 2.  No mojo for Georgia for falsely creating hype.

Last Big Game: Even though we came into LSU and brought the pain, a loss is still a loss.  Georgia on the other hand is still reaming off a big win over Florida a couple of weeks ago.  Georgia brings in a little more momentum into this game than Auburn does, allotting +1 mojo points for Georgia.

Generic Mascot: Tigers and Bulldogs.  The two most overused mascots in football.  There are two Tigers and two Bulldogs in the SEC alone.  Bringing in an Eagle to the contest doesn’t help Auburn avoid the generic mascot perception, then we’d have two of them.  I don’t know how this affects the mojo.  Auburn and Georgia are both really old schools, so I’ll just claim to have our mascots be the original Tiger and Bulldog and everyone else is copying… +1 mojo for both teams.

Underdog: It was bad enough for Georgia to have to deal with Tuberville when he’s on the road, but Georgia was also unfortunate enough to be ranked higher than Tubs in their meeting.  Georgia just concocted a recipe for their own doom.  Auburn gets +1 mojo for getting over their cold with some Bulldog-Noodle Soup.

Revenge: We were thinking NC last year when Georgia came in and spanked us like a screaming child at the supermarket.  Now it’s our turn.  The extent of our wrath will be immeasurable; since there are no known units to measure wrath… perhaps Auburn will unleash an unheard of 23 Muschamps of wrath in Athens this weekend... +1 mojo for Auburn.

Final Score: Auburn 5 – Georgia 2

I think there are only two advantages Georgia has over Auburn: Receivers and on Kick Return (I now know why we pooched it to LSU at the end of the game).  Other than that, I think Auburn has the better runningbacks, quarterback, O-Line, and no in the nation is better than our defense.  If Auburn wins the coin toss, I hope Tubs chooses to go on defense first (there’s no way he will though), because it is going to be brutal if we leave Quentin Groves at Linebacker, merely feet away from our other death-machine Tray Blackmon.  This is going to be a long game because if Georgia wants to survive this game (by survive, I mean literally being able to breathe after the game) they will run the ball to the sideline and avoid the middle of the field at all costs, and they better do it fast before Coleman or Brock gets to them.

Auburn will open up the playbook (Always a Great Decision!) on offense and try to get a score in early.  Look for an early lead by Auburn followed by our traditional “run-out-the-clock!” offense in the second half, and it will work like a charm.  Brandon Cox won’t have the opportunity to be clutch again on the road because this game will be decided by the end of the third quarter.  This is going to be one of those wins that you want to buy a newspaper and pin the score onto your wall.  Here’s to new decorations for my room!  Auburn wins a sweet 28-10 win over Georgia.

War Eagle!
