After Auburn's Basketball team beat Alabama for the second time this year, Ryan sent an
e-mail to a random sampling of Auburner readers and asked the question;

"Is beating Bama getting old?"

Here are the responses;

Beating uat will never get old! It is the most exciting thing AU does
and as we become more proficient at beating them in everything, possibly
they will keep their mouths' closed and the media will begin to be
frightened of us too. Well, I can dream, can't I?

I don't care if it were chess, checkers, trivial pusuit, a race to the ice cream store, who could blow a bigger bubble, paper, scissors, rock, beating bammer in anything would never get old to me. War Eagle!!!

I think I have the ultimate response to beating Alabama getting old.
I am in an Alabama National Guard unit currently deployed to Iraq.
Given that our unit is filled with people from the state of Alabama, you
can bet that the Auburn vs Alabama conversations run wild. Watching
Alabama fall into mediocrity with each loss during the football season
was so fun because we had all of the Alabama fans right here to pick on
every single day. By the time we won the Iron Bowl, it was almost
anti-climactic. Instead of being fired up for the game, most of the
Alabama fans appeared to just be resigned to the fact that they were
once again going to lose. Not even the firing of Mike Shula and the
hiring of Nick Saban picked up their spirits. By the time we beat
Alabama in basketball the first time it just wasn't really any fun to
pick on them anymore. I don't even know if I can bring myself to
mention this second victory to them, because I'll almost feel like I'm
doing something wrong. It makes me feel like I'm the bad person for
enjoying one of the greatest periods of Auburn domination over Alabama
in sports history. Given the circumstances of where I am and how
enjoyment of beating Alabama should provide an endless lift to the
spirits, I'm forced to admit to myself something I never thought would
happen: I'm getting tired of beating 'Bama all the time.

Wait a minute...

No I'm not.

Beating 'Bama NEVER gets old, no matter how many times or how bad the
beating is. I refuse to let their resigned slip into sports mediocrity
lessen my pleasure at seeing the Auburn Tigers reign supreme over
Alabama in all things.

WAR EAGLE!!!

Ryan,
In NO WAY is beating Bama ever get old. Growing up in the state (and
having a father that is die hard Bama fan) it's great to see the "Great
School" fall to whom they consider an inferior school. I just love that
not only if Auburn beating Bama in football (supposedly Bama's sport)
and basketball (what they consider their sport now), but we are beating
them academically. Auburn is stepping to the forefront of all public
institutions. So now, not only do we beat them in football, basketball,
baseball, kickball, and any other sport you can think of, but now we are
destroying them with first class education. So to answer the question,
beating Bama will never get old!

NO, beating Bama never gets old. I equate beating them to the feeling I get everytime Legends of the Hidden Temple comes on TV, and that feeling is really good.

Honestly, I think the Auburn - Alabama games are becoming onesided. It is no longer interesting to see. There are no tough battles won with galant plays or amazing defense. Auburn just takes care of business. I think we should play football or basketball with some new handicap, possibly withholding use of one hand or something to make the game fun again.

Ryan,
As an avid read does, I decided to check out the Bama message board
posted today. The questions is was any of the statements actual original
thoughts. I think I saw the same statement like 19 times
(Mooooooooooooo) I could rant for years on how classy the University of
Alabama (and the beautiful city to Tuscaloosa) is. I brought up the
question of beating Bama gettin old, and every one feels that it
actually feel better everytime we beat them.

Beating Alabama has become what our mothers always taught us was wrong to do......
Picking on the slow kid. The only part that is still enjoyable is seeing the inbred fanbase have to take another slice of humble pie. I even hear rumor that uat is going to start a hockey team in hope of beating Auburn at something. Too bad for uat that Kentucky has a hockey team.

Ryan,

Whoever says that beating Alabama is getting old is not a true Auburn fan. I haven’t been an Auburn fan for a long time (since fall 2002 when I first landed in this country), but I know a lot about the hostility between Auburn and Alabama to term it just as a mere rivalry. It’s like a war which never ends and no one likes to lose them, do they? Alabama fans may give vague reasons saying that Tenn (and now LSU) are bigger rivals for them these days, but it comes from the fact – as you stated – Auburn is going to win no matter what sport we are going to play against Alabama. If the Auburn fans start thinking that beating Bama is getting old, it would be easier for the Bama fans to deal with the pain (at least on the outside). Also the Auburn fans should realize this that with the first loss Auburn has; the Bama fans are going to rub it in our face as if like we have been losing to them ever since Bryant stepped into Tuscaloosa. And also by thinking its getting old, the Auburn fans are under-mining the immense effort put in to the wins by the fine Auburn athletes.

WAR EAGLE!

Beating Bama never gets old. I am still bitter about losing to them in
2001 and hearing "roll tide!" all night long in my downtown apt. Every
Auburn "W" eases that pain a little more. I don't care much to talk
trash to all the bama fans in the office, but I do like to sit here at
my desk and gloat...a little...

Beating Bama is like seeing boobies.
I should have gotten over the excitement of it long ago. After all, it's
really not that big of a deal. Yet for some reason it never gets old, and I
will take any opportunity I can get to see it. Just the thought can still
bring a smile to my face after all these years.
