Do not yell at the quarterback when the play clock gets down to
7 seconds as if you honestly think Brandon Cox has forgotten he’s
playing a game of football and that you’re actually doing
him a service by trying to remind him it’s his job to call
for the ball to be snapped.
If
you're a guy, make sure you have a good reason for wearing a jersey.
Jerseys are acceptable for all women. Hot ladies look extremely
hot in jerseys. Not-hot ladies are well covered by jerseys. Ladies
can’t go wrong by wearing a jersey to a game. Extra points
go to the ladies who wear the numbers of 300+ pound linemen…
not just the number of the ‘dreamboat’ quarterback.
Also,
ladies, Carolina blue is not a substitute for navy blue.
Don’t
hold other fans to your standards of fandom. I never left an Auburn
game early because Auburn was losing, but don’t yell at other
people when they decide they’d rather do something other than
watch their favorite team get slaughtered. People argue that we
should stay to support the team. I think that’s a ridiculous
argument. Why would the players want us to watch them be embarrassed?
I
recommend staying for another reason. There’s always
the slight chance of a huge comeback. The slight chance of
witnessing an outrageously improbable comeback usually outweighs
a guaranteed extra hour on Saturday in which you’d still
be depressed because Auburn lost. Don’t think you’re
the superior fan because you stay, you’re just better
at risk management.
Similarly,
it’s also important to realize this is why fans of bad
football teams travel to Auburn to watch games. They realize
that there’s a 99% chance that they’ll lose, but
the trip is justified because the payoff gained from attending
one of the greatest upsets in college football history outweighs
the near certainly of a loss to these people.
Punt
Bama Punt - my dad told me he quit watching at the beginning
of the 4th quarter.
Granted,
it’s pretty dumb for a Buffalo fan to travel to Auburn since
the odds of a payoff are similar to the lottery, but the Ole Miss
fan that travels to Auburn is more like a guy who invests in high
risk mutual funds.
Finally,
I have a suggestion to students - don’t complain about block
seating. Every year, many non-greeks complain about how fraternities
get block seating at football games. It allows the greeks to show
up and claim their seats thirty minutes before kickoff when the
rest of us have to get to games two, three or four hours early.
However, these complaints are completely invalid as the advantages
of this system highly favor non-greeks.
Fist
of all, the block seating areas are in the worst locations of the
student section. They’re mostly in the corner, too close to
the field or too far up, making viewing a game pretty hard, and
they’re in locations were it’ near impossible to view
plays on the jumbotron.
These
less desirable places to sit are also the places that TV cameras
can easily access. While the truth hurts, fraternity guys and their
sundressed dates look more appealing to the ESPN cameras than say,
people like this.
