The
Auburner had a chance to interview Cole Bennett, the junior TE for Auburn.
He’s had three career touchdowns; including the first score in last
year’s SEC Championship game. This website has been known to lie
in the past, but we assure you that this interview is 100% legit.
I imagine
that in most universities the only reason a member of the offensive
line would interact with an engineer with a nerdy website would be to
steal his milk money. This is just another reason why Auburn is far
more awesome than any other university.
TheAuburner:
Your website themanbehindthemask.net gives Auburn fans a personal look into
Auburn’s practices and games. Why did you start the website and what
kind of feedback are you getting?
Cole
Bennett:
Started it a couple of weeks into the semester for the MNGT class that I’m
in. I get a wide range of feedback, from comments about the game, general
questions, opinions, etc. If you can think of it I’ve probably been
asked it.
TheAuburner:
Do you plan on keeping up with the site after the season is over?
Cole
Bennett: We’ll have to see how things go, I have the
domain name for 1 year so the possibility is there. If there is enough interaction
and demand for it then I’ll keep it up.
TheAuburner:
Sometimes, at away game tigerwalks, I’ll hear fans call players/coaches
by the wrong name. What are the most common mistakes?
Cole
Bennett: Cooper and I are often confused and are some of the
smaller guys like Kenny and Brad as well as some of the linemen. Most people
just see big guys and get confused cause they appear to look the same.
TheAuburner:
What’s the difference between a pancake block and cockroach block? What
exactly are those percent grades guys on the line get from coaches?
Cole
Bennett:
A pancake is when you drive your guy off the ball and put him on his back.
A cockroach is a successful cut block where your guy is on the ground. Our
% grade is based on three things: technique, production, and assignment. The
average of the three is your game grade. Our goal is to have no worse than
a mid B.
TheAuburner:
Which teams do you enjoy playing the most?
Cole
Bennett:
Georgia is by far the best for me, since I’m from there and I know a
bunch of people that go to Georgia. Behind them is probably LSU or Alabama
since they are both big games for a lot of my teammates.
The
Auburner:
Do you remember that time you picked up that fumble against Tennessee in the
championship game to score a touchdown? Because that was awesome.
Cole
Bennett:
Yea I remember, it was a great way to end the regular season, I hadn’t
felt like I was much of a contributor until that game, so it was pretty big
thing for me.
TheAuburner:
Do you read a lot about what the media has to say about the team, or do you
try to avoid it?
Cole
Bennett:
I read some stuff, mostly what I read is from what my Dad or Mom reads to
me. They read everything and then ask me about it, there’s a lot of
misinformation and lies out there, and that’s the main reason/purpose
behind my site.
TheAuburner:
Which football player should run for governor of Alabama next year?
Cole
Bennett:
TJ, always got something to say and never stops talking. Could talk to you
about anything, that’s all a politician is really, a talker so he would
be great at it.
TheAuburner:
Did Al Borges really eat a live Cardinal in preparation for the Ball State
game?
Cole
Bennett: Live? No, it was fried with hot sauce.
TheAuburner:
What’s your favorite Auburn tradition?
Cole
Bennett:
I’m not big on traditions, but when the eagle flies down before the
game that’s really cool, even though I never see it.
TheAuburner:
It seems like growing dreadlocks is a new trend among the football players.
How are yours coming along?
Cole
Bennett: It also appears that just because you have dreadlocks
you can be called the Predator. Well, I got a news flash, Arnold killed the
Predator, and he had short hair.
